Recruiting for Spring 2025 (start date January 29)
Virtually, Wednesdays 3:30-5:00pm
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy specifically designed to help people manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, and live more mindful, present lives. While originally developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan to treat borderline personality disorder, DBT has since proven effective for a wide range of mental health issues. DBT can be particularly helpful for individuals who experience strong emotional responses they feel unable to manage or for those who struggle with impulsivity, mood disorders, or harmful behaviors.
Overview of DBT Skills Group for Young Adults
We offer an abbreviated model of DBT skills training to best accommodate the schedules of college students. This 14-week group is held online and comprised of four core DBT modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness (see schedule below). Unlike other process groups, DBT skills group is more like taking a class on how to regulate your emotions (the stuff you wish they taught in school!). Research has demonstrated that groups of 6-10 members are optimally engaged
Requirements
In order to enroll, group members must be:
Between the ages of 18-26
Residing in Rhode Island or Connecticut
Actively participating in individual psychotherapy (your therapist does not need to be DBT oriented)
Available to attend the majority of group sessions and have access to the internet
Program Cost
The fee is $50 per group session and is charged on a weekly basis. An initial intake ($200) is required to determine fit and provide orientation. We can assist clients with submitting out-of-network reimbursement.
